What this means for your email list
Is a free-provider address a problem?
No: plenty of genuine customers use protonmail.com. For business-to-business sales a free address can mean a personal contact instead of a work one, so segment these separately if that matters to you. The address itself still needs checking for typos and dead mailboxes.
Sender authentication
protonmail.com uses a DMARC quarantine policy: mail that fails authentication is sent to spam. That is a sound middle step, and a good sign the owner looks after their email setup.
