What this means for your email list
Is a free-provider address a problem?
Not by itself. protonmail.ch is a normal mailbox provider used by real people, and mail to it is delivered reliably. The thing to watch is whether the specific mailbox exists, which a domain check cannot tell you, so verify each address.
Sender authentication
protonmail.ch uses a DMARC quarantine policy: mail that fails authentication is sent to spam. That is a sound middle step, and a good sign the owner looks after their email setup.
